EZ Scan 4000
The
EZ Scan 4000 is one of the more popular units of this type on the market today. This scanner is an on board computer II scanner that features the most current
controller area network protocol. This protocol allows or more
flexibility and capabilities in the management of diagnosing issues with the engine. The protocol that is used by the EZ Scan 4000 is the same protocol that is
being used in most vehicles today and is the mandated protocol used in any vehicle that was made from 2008
on.
The EZ Scan 4000 is a great tool
to have when you own a vehicle. The reason or this is that it is
able to collect information from the on board compute of your vehicle. The unit is able to support multiple trouble code requests.
When there is an issue with your
vehicle the computer will issue a code, which is basically the vehicles language, telling the scanner what the
issue is. The EZ Scan 4000 is able to read generic codes, pending
codes, and enhanced codes. The unit is also adept at displaying
readiness test statuses as well as O2 sensor tests.
This is a favorable unit because
it is the most up to date in terms of controller area network protocol. Many other units are still using older protocol which will not give you all of
the benefits of working with a newer protocol and they may not work on newer vehicles at all.
The unit is small, weighing in at
just over four pounds, and will easily collect data from the vehicle’s on board computer and it also supports
multiple trouble code requests so you do not need any other diagnostic tools.
The EZ Scan 4000 is a great option
because it is straight forward, doesn’t have too many bells and whistles, and is quite
affordable. You can find the unit for anywhere between $150 and
$300 depending on the provider and whether or not you catch it on sale. For the functionality of the unit and the ability to easily read codes,
this is a great price.
You can pay that much just to have the diagnostic testing done by your mechanic, and that doesn’t include the cost
of any repairs! In the end you will find that this is a great
investment that may save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars as you can make diagnosis yourself and you may
even be able to make the repairs yourself when you know what the issue is.
